We were very happy to find the villa almost exactly as we had imagined it from the photos online. Screens on the windows were greatly appreciated as we arrived at the height of mosquito season! The grounds were meticulously kept as was the pool, with the caretaker promptly on site every morning. From beginning to end, this vacation booking experience--and the vacation itself--have convinced us that booking online may not be such a bad thing at all. Thank you!
We were pleased to find clean, fresh linens and towels. That said, not much attention was paid to general dusting of paintings and above eye-level objects, like windows and light fixtures. The sewer backup odor in the bathroom was quite unpleasant.
There were no photos of the bathroom or kitchen area, however, which left us with some anxiety until we arrived. Fortunately, both were clean and usable. We were very disappointed to find the kitchen in desperate need of upgrading. Why in Tuscany is there no Italian granite slab instead of the horribly ancient countertop? The cabinets smelled terribly of mildew as did the dishes. While everything we found to use was clean and well-maintained, simple upgrades to the small kitchen area would be of minimal cost, but of wonderful aesthetic value. Also, since we were expected to keep the villa clean, it would have been convenient to have cleaning products available, like dishwashing liquid, sponges, and scouring cleanser. We had to buy these on our own which was an unexpected expense on our part. There also were no dish towels until we requested one from the representative. The furniture was adequate. The caretaker did an excellent job of keeping the pool clean. However, there were not enough chairs/chaises for the guests. We avoided the pool since the other guests were there most of the time. The plastic chairs could be upgraded to more comfortable ones with cushions available. The two bedrooms desperately need new mattresses! Again, dusting was an issue for anything above eye-level. The screens were a wonderful surprise, and the nights were gloriously cool and refreshing! Updated furniture would do wonders for these bedrooms! The bathroom was small but clean and adequate, except for the sewer backup odor, which we covered with a can of air freshener that was provided by the representative upon request. Again, there were no cleaning products for the bathroom. Removing the old cabinet behind the door would add space. Hot water was plentiful--another wonderful surprise! Cristina, the owner, was lovely and tried very hard to be helpful, especially by bringing us missing items like the dish towel, air freshener, and extra towels within 24 hours of our request.
We would have liked to have been closer to the beach, but, the distance was not that great and we enjoyed driving through Suvereto and Venturina to go shopping and enjoy gelato! We loved our visits to the nearby towns and beaches.
